Ben Affleck has been applauded for how he reacted when his son showed an interest in some incredibly expensive sneakers.
As well as standing as a veteran movie star, the 53-year-old celeb is also a father-of-three and apparently a pretty ordinary kinda dad, too.
Affleck’s parenting was thrust into the spotlight earlier this year when the Gone Girl actor was seen shopping with his youngest son, Samuel, whom he shares with ex-wife Jennifer Garner.
The Hollywood actor was celebrated online when the clip went viral for appearing to have a ‘normal’ reaction when Samuel had an extraordinary request.
The father-son duo were out browsing trainers at a huge sneaker convention in Los Angeles when the then-13-year-old appeared to take a liking to a pair of Dior Air Jordan 1s.
While Jordans are enormously popular, this particular shoe came with an eye-watering price tag of $6,000.

When another shopper made a joke that Affleck probably wouldn’t be happy with the idea of spending thousands of dollars on a pair of sneakers, the actor quipped back with a wholesome, down-to-Earth remark.
“That’s a lot of lawns you gotta mow there,” the Californian actor said to his son, implying he would be put to work to pay the luxury item off.
Affleck also told his son that he only liked the shoes ‘because they’re expensive’, but Samuel insisted it wasn’t just about the price tag as he said: “No, they’re tough! I’ve always said they look good.”
The Oscar and BAFTA Award winner’s reaction was praised by fans online, who were pleased to see the youngster doesn’t just get everything he wants just because he has a rich parent.
“Ben worth hundreds of millions and said no. make him earn it good dad,” one person wrote.
Another added: “Gotta give props to ben man. He raised his kid well,” while a third said: “Ben seems so normal.”
Weeks later, while on the red carpet for The Accountant 2, Affleck was asked if his son had committed to taking on the chores to pay for the shoes.

He joked: “That’s what happened when you tell a motherf***** they have to mow the lawn. All of a sudden, they don’t want those shoes.”
“You do not need thousand dollar shoes,” he continued. “He’s like, ‘We have the money.’ I’m like, ‘I have the money, you’re broke!'”
His hilarious response saw dozens more celebrate the three-time Golden Globe winner.
“Self-made millionaires know not to spoil their kids,” said another, while dozens praised the father-of-three for standing firm against the expensive pair of shoes.
Affleck also has two other children with Garner, eldest daughter, Violet Ann, 20, and Finn, 17.
Despite his reported $150 million net worth, Affleck says it’s in his kids that measures how much his life is ‘worth.’
In an interview with Good Morning America in December 2021, the dad said: “I will be long dead and someone will ask my kids, ‘What was your dad like?’ and that is when I will know what my life was worth.”
Last year, Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from Affleck, two years after their 2022 wedding.
He met the singer in the early 2000s, after which they dated briefly and even became engaged, until calling it off in 2004.
Fast forward two decades, and the pair reignited their relationship in 2021, and they tied the knot the next year.
However, Lopez filed for divorce in August 2024, which was finalized in February this year.
