During the filming of 2004’s historical war epic Troy, Brad Pitt and Eric Bana chose to perform their intense duel scene without stunt doubles

To add a competitive edge, they agreed on a playful wager: they’d pay each other $50 per light contact and $100 for what Pitt described as ‘major hits’.

By the end of the six-day shoot, Pitt told Today, he owed Bana an impressive $750! There’s no breakdown of how many of these hits were light or serious, but Bana has referenced getting a ‘full-fledged backhand fist to the face’ from his scene partner, so… draw your own conclusions

Meanwhile, some claim that Bana didn’t owe Pitt anything at the end of the scene, although upon the film’s release, the Chicago Tribune reported that his total was $200.

Either way, a much lower figure

Interestingly, Pitt’s character, Achilles, was the aggressor in the scene, delivering more strikes, which increased his chances of making contact.

Despite this, it was Pitt who sustained a significant injury during production, a ruptured Achilles tendon. Pretty ironic, really, given his portrayal of Achilles — who, according to mythology, had a vulnerable heel
